Hi!
I don't know of any other names for it, but here are the two kinds (with picture links). I'm sure you've got some near you!

Buckhorn plantain leaves are dark green, long and thin, seldom more than an inch or so wide. http://www.uky.edu/Ag/ukturf/weed%20id/buckhorn-plantain2.jpg
Broadleaf Plantain leaves are much wider and have eight veins running through it (no center vein) http://njaes.rutgers.edu/weeds/weed.asp?broadleafplantain

Does plantain have another name? I thought you would use the tropical fruit that looks like a big banana. I have never heard of Plantain other than the above. Thanks

Oh sure- he knows what it looks like. But he's one of those tough men that will work in the woods & around the poison ivy.

But the experience we were referring to in the video he CHOSE a large poison ivy patch over certain death on a rickety 100 yr old bridge. Imagine carrying a camera, tripod, & having to balance on beams that are several feet apart and could break at any moment.
I'd choose the ivy too. :-)

We must have it around if God put the remedy here...LOL.

Some friends have it north of us, but we've just never encountered it, and I'm surprised, given our outdoor adventuring. :)

So, Kristen, can your hubby recognize poison ivy, yet? So as to not walk through it, again. lol
Nice to know you can use the leaves for jewel weed, too. I don't know why, but I always just used the flowers.
Can you take your herb "paste", spread it on the skin, and then wrap a cloth, plastic wrap, or rag around it? Or does it need to be able to dry on the skin? Thought it would be a way to keep it on longer, and not be so messy. Thanks! Kudos to another great herb video! ;)

Oooops!
Jewel Weed SPARKLES silver-like in the water. It looks like a Jewel!
It also blooms a small orange flower, grows close to water, has swollen joints, and a smooth rubbery feel to it (not a normal leaf feel).

Y'all said you can tell it's Jewel Weed by putting it in water, but didn't explain. So, how does that work?
